How many pallets fit in a container?

3 min ·
A 20ft container takes 11 euro pallets, a 40ft takes 24. Double stacking and loose cartons change the numbers. All the figures at a glance.
The number of pallets in a sea container depends on the container type, the pallet size and the height of your load. Below are the standard quantities for a single layer.
| Container | Euro pallets | Block pallets | Internal height |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20ft | 11 | 10 | 2.39 m |
| 40ft | 24 | 20 | 2.39 m |
| 40ft High Cube | 24 | 20 | 2.69 m |
Double stacking
If your pallets are low enough, they can be stacked on top of each other. In a standard container that works up to about 1.15 m per pallet, in a High Cube up to about 1.30 m. A 40ft High Cube with low euro pallets can carry 48 pallets this way.
Loose cartons
Many containers from Asia arrive with loose cartons and no pallets. That uses the container more efficiently, but the cargo has to be unloaded by hand and palletised on arrival. Expect roughly 40 to 55 euro pallets from a full 40ft of loose cartons, depending on carton sizes and stacking height.
After unloading
Stockwell unloads containers in Bleiswijk, palletises loose cartons, counts and registers everything on arrival and stores the pallets straight away. The container calculator shows how many pallets your cargo will make.
